HMIe
February 20th, 2010 by clongmuir
This week we welcome HMIe to school.
We are hoping that the inspectors have lots of opportunities to speak with our children because the children will give a true refelction of our happy little school.
P4, P5, P6 and P7 recently took part in the Sparks Project and gave a performance at the REP along with the other schools involved. It was a great morning and we were all very proud of our pupils. Of course they behaved brilliantly and were a credit to the school and their families.

Long time, no blog!
January 29th, 2010 by clongmuir
Hello!
Things are very busy here at the moment.
Today we have Green Afternoon, where all the children who have been ‘on green’ for the last month take part in really great activities.
P5 are having a SPY HUNT and have all dressed up as spies. They are looking for clues around the school.
We all watched our Uganda film today. Lots of us had big lumps in our throats as we saw the smiling faces of the children in Namasyolo School who have so little but are happy despite their poverty. I had a lump in my throat watching our children as well, they were all fantastic on the film and I am very proud of them.
We are going to arrange a ‘film premier’ for parents soon. I think there might be a few more lumps in throats at that!!

News Update
November 20th, 2009 by clongmuir
We are having a very busy time at school.
Nursery are enjoying the dark area that Mrs Ross has built in the class. They love taking the torches in and looking at the ’stars’. The children are also learning about all different shapes, and where we find them.
Primary 1, 2 and 3 are practising for their Nativity Play and concert in December. The children have been learning all the songs and it is sounding great already.
P4 have had a student teacher, Mr Wescott, for the last few weeks. They have really enjoyed having another teacher in the class and Mr Wescott has enjoyed being part of our school. We all wish him luck in the future and we think he is going to be a very good teacher.
P5 have been making adverts for their inventions to help care for plants. They have been learning how to video edit their adverts. They are going to present their inventions to our own Dragon’s Den very soon. I will get to be a Dragon, and I am really looking forward to it!
P5/6 have been doing creative writing about Pirates. They made super little books, complete with illustrations, which they are reading to the younger children. This afternoon they are having a Pirate Treasure Hunt with Miss Veal!
Primary 7 had an anti-smoking workshop yesterday and put on a performance for parents and the older classes. They were terrific, and were able to answer lots of questions about the harm that smoking can do to your body.
The choir is going to be singing at the Riverside Inn in December. They were asked to provide Carols and Christmas songs for the senior citizen lunch. Riverside Inn and giving the choir a donation for a charity of their choice as a thank you.
We are busy making a film about differences between our school and Namasyolo school in Uganda. Our pupils are narrating the film, and we also have some St John’s pupils coming to narrate a small section next week. Watch this space for details of the film ‘Premier!’
It is a very busy term, but we are enjoying it!

Uganda 2009
October 21st, 2009 by clongmuir
During the October holidays Miss Veal, me, (Mrs Longmuir), Mrs Dundas and Mrs Young from St Ninian’s and Miss Lapadula from St John’s visited Uganda.
We visited our link school, Namasyolo Primary in Busia district. There are 635 children on the school roll.
The school is in a poor area, and many of the children have no shoes and some have no school uniform. Some children do not have anything to eat all day. There are no free school lunches in Uganda.
The school has very few resources. We took large maps with us, 3 parachutes (with 3 books of games), football kits and footballs. The children and teachers were delighted with these. Some people had given us donations, so with this we bought every child a pencil and a jotter. Children have to provide their own pencils and jotters, and many cannot afford them. The children were very happy! We bought some pens for the teachers too.
We visted classes and watched the children learning, and some of us taught lessons to the children too. There were over 100 children in some of the classes. These classrooms were very cramped.
We played parachute games with some of the classes and we had a lot of fun.
At the assembly on the last day the children sang for us and did some drama.
We sang the Community Song for the children and the teachers joined in. We also danced a Dashing White Sergeant for them. They thought it was a very funny dance.
We were very sad to leave at the end of the visit. Namasyolo Primary needs one more classroom, and we are going to help raise money to build it.
I took my video camera on the trip. We will be making a film about Namasyolo to show to the children and staff at St Ninian’s and St John’s. Watch this space!

I can’t believe the holidays are nearly over – they went very quickly!
Myself, Miss Veal and some of the teachers have been in school this week getting things ready for the new session. The staff officially start back next Monday and the children come back next Wednesday.
We are really looking forward to hearing all about the fun the children had during the holidays. I wonder if they missed us?
See you soon children!

Busy busy busy!

Primary 7 have been really busy since the last post. They are preparing for Passport To Europe at St John’s High which is next week.
A lovely new teacher is now with P7, her name is Miss McLean and she is really nice. She taught in New Zealand and has been telling the class all about it.
We had Sports Day yesterday. It was really good fun. Primary 7 were the team leaders. They were excellent leaders and made sure all the children in their teams knew what to do. Some teams had nursery children in them. P7 were brilliant at involving and looking after them.
Well done everyone, I was REALLY proud of all of you. You were a credit to the school and to your families!

There’s been a lot happening since the last post. Most of the P7 pupils visited Winmarleigh with Mr Gallagher and me. There are photos on the website. Click the link below.

Mr Gallagher left the St Ninian’s to take up the post of Principle Teacher in Glenboig School. We all really miss him, but he has promised to come back and visit soon.
We had Health Week last week, organised by Miss martin with the help of Mrs Flemming and Miss McEwan and our Active Schools co ordinator Miss Walker. It was great fun. There were lots of physical activities, for example, karate, rugby, cheerleading, dance.
There were also talks from the Fire Service, Ambulance Service, nurse, as well as Heartstart training. We also had a loan of 2 Wiis, with Wii sports games, which were great fun.
A good time was had by all!!

The boy in the striped pajamas film plus the world longest blog
March 16th, 2009 by djwhyte599
On Friday our class watched the film of The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas.
I thought that it was a great film. It has all the emotions that you can think of such as happy, sad, emotional and lots, lots more.
It is about a wee boy called Bruno and him and his family moved to the countryside because his dad was a soldier in World War 2 .Most of you reading this will know that the Jews were rounded up and the Germans held them in a big camp. Well, Bruno never knew and he went to the great huge fence and found a wee boy and they became great friends and at the end Bruno wanted to help him find his dad so he dug under the fence to help him but a big group of people including Bruno and his mate were taken into a small building with a little hole in the top that can open and close and when all of the Jews and Bruno went in the little hole opened and one of the Germans threw gas into it. Most of the girls in my class were crying at the end the boys weren’t … but I am pretty sure that they felt sad inside. Well, that was The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas.
Hope to bog more soon, by your bloger … Darren

INTRESTING DAYS
March 16th, 2009 by djwhyte599
MY NAME IS SAM MC DONALD These few days have been very exciting for me but one thing that’s really made me angry was that St Ninians got beaten 6-2 by St Joesphs. I scored 2. Also on Friday we had a no school uniform day for Uganda and you paid a £1.00 but the most exciting thing was that we watched The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas movie because we are doing WW2 as our topic. It was very emotional and at the same time my favourite character was Bruno. He was just not a normal boy, he had something about him that made him different. See you next time, Sam
