Sharon McQuillan from Barnhill Primary is piloting one of the Modern Foreign Languages outcomes from Curriculum for Excellence. I am sure you will be interested to read the blurb she sent me……
“At Barnhill we are trialling the following outcome :
Organising and Using Information
I have worked with others using ICT where appropriate and can contribute successfully to a presentation in English supported by the use of the language I am learning on an aspect of life in the country where the language I am learning is spoken.
This outcome is being piloted in both P7 classes. They are thinking about
• what we already have in place which would support this outcome
• what we would have to add to make this outcome happen in our school
One of the contexts of this work will be ‘The Café’ as this is the one of the topics P7 will be working on after the Easter holiday. Children however, will also be given scope to produce a presentation on any other aspect of French life which they feel they have enough knowledge about and enough French language to support.
A variety of ICT medium will be available to the children to create presentations within e.g. Textease Presenter, Powerpoint, Photostory. The children may also choose to make a video or an MP3 recording using Audacity. They may also choose to post on our school blog or interactive magazine Making the News.”
I am sure you agree that this is a very inspiring way to link Modern Foreign Languages and ICT and definetely hits A Curriculum for Excellence.
