Archive for June, 2007

On the 14th and 15th of June, Ancrum Road’s P7 classes went for their induction days at Harris Academy. It was really fun. We got to do loads of subjects, some of mine were P.E, Home Economics, Art, Music, English, Maths and loads more. My favourite subject was P.E because we got football. My guidance teacher is Mrs Bachelor and my class is 1kb and the house I am in is Kinloch. I have met loads of new friends and some in other years. The 6th years were showing me and other 1st years around the school so we didn’t get lost, but even though the induction days were only on for 2 days I think I know my way around the school pretty well now.

In p6 and p7 we had a Spanish link with children in Barcelona.
They sent us messages, sometimes in English and sometimes in Spanish, and we sent them back. We typed in Spanish but our keyboards don’t do the accents. Sometimes it was very hard to know what they were writing. Sometimes it was boring because they didn’t send us letters back. My guy lived in a big house and he had a swimming pool. They were all in the same year as us. They were all the same age as us.

On the 6th of June the Robolab teams from the east coast of Scotland went to Sensation for the Robolab Competition. Robolab teams from different schools throughout Dundee took part in the Challenges. All the teams that were there did very well and tried their best. Ancrum came 4th and just missed a prize but we did our best and did well. Our buggy broke down three times so we got some sympathy from the staff helpers.
The Robolab Competition started at 9:30 when we had to build our buggies. At 11:00 we did mini challenges and at 12:15 we had lunch and 1 hour to roam The Exhibits in Sensation.
At 13:15 we got time to practise for the Main Challenge at 2:00.
14:00 came and it was time to do the Challenge we had all came for. Every team got two tries. We came fourth out of thirteen which was good. There were no losers as every one got a goody bag which had a memory stick for the computer, a ruler, a pen, a key ring and a calculator. The day was a good day and I am sure everyone who was there enjoyed it.

On June the 8th primary 4a’s decided to perform a fashion show for their marble treat. They did two performances one of which p7’s were able to watch.
There were six different categories: sport, casual wear, party, wacky, night wear, going out and fancy dress. There were three or four pupils demonstrating each group of clothes.
The fashion show lasted about half an hour and the music was great! There was a different song for each part. As the children walked down the “cat walk” the people watching were all clapping and cheering.
When each part had been on, there was a big finale and everyone came on with their groups and were all on the stage at the same time. Everyone had a great time, especially the primary 4’s who put a lot of effort into it.
All the people in my class thought it was great and enjoyed it very much !

On the 9/5/07 primary 6 and 7 had an assembly to discuss
the treat that the winning house would get at the end of term, which might be to go to The Factory Skate Park.
Mark, a sports development coach at the skate park came in and told us about the different sessions and times in which you can go to skate or learn how to.
He also explained that if you cannot skate then there is a chill out zone where you can just hang out with your friends.
Mr Watson(our Deputy Head)also introduced Father Miln who talked to us about The Red Cross Society which helps countries which have suffered in war.
He was also talking about his holiday in Malta – which is a country that the Red Cross Society has helped quite a lot in the past.

On the 24th May,2007 the primary seven classes went to Lochee Park with members of staff from the Ancrum Centre. It was great fun but it wasn’t very good weather. We were put into groups and then a member of staff from the Ancrum Centre led each one.The first activity that our group did was an activity where you had to join poles together and let the tennis ball travel all the way down, when the ball reached the end of the pole you were holding, you ran back to the start of the line. The second one was when you had to put tyres in order starting at one and getting up to five. You only had three cones and a lower number could go on a higher number but not the other way around.
Some of the groups didn’t get to do all of the activities but we did as much as we could.
Our favourite ones were the one when you had to get the box out of the rope.If it toppled it would blow up and if someone stood in the rope the same thing would happen. The second one that we liked was the bowling game. You had to throw a ball and hit one of the wooden bowling pins. If you hit one then you would get the amount of points that it was worth. If you hit two then you would get two points.
We had two hours to do all of the activities that we could do and at the end everybody went home feeling happy and enjoyed the Team Building.

The two Primary 7 classes got a taster from Ancrum Outdoor Centre to do team building. Team building was great fun and it improved our team skills. Team building is all about working together in teams and trying to have fun and solve things!
When we arrived at Lochee Park the outdoor centre had everything prepared for us. We got put into groups and then an instructor came with each group. There were many stations which took a lot of teamwork to master. Here is a little paragraph of what we did at the stations.
At one station there was a cone about 7 metres away and you had to get there by standing on carpets and not touching the grass. You had to try and get your whole team onto a carpet! At another one you had 4 tubes and you started off with two tubes (BIG TUBES!) and had to let a ball roll down. Once you got past the first tube you had to run down to the bottom of the second tube and keep the ball running until you got to the end of the course. If you dropped the ball, you had to go back to the beginning.
One of the other ones was a mine field. You had to cross the mat without stepping on the mines and we didn’t know where the mines were. If you stood on the mines you went to the back of the line.
There was one like bowling. There was lots of wooden skittles with numbers on them. If you hit the a skittle with 9 on it you would get 9 points. But if you hit two skittles, then you only get 2 points. The first person up to 20 was the winner.
Another one was they tied us in a knot with a partner and we had to untangle ourselves.
There was lots more but we can’t name them all. When it turned 3 O’Clock we all had to go back to school and get ready for coming home. Everyone who did team building had great fun and enjoyed it very much.
